THE ESSENCE OF TASTE

White Veronese IGT wine

What is a White Veronese IGT wine?

When people think of Valpolicella, they almost always think of red wines: Amarone, Ripasso and Valpolicella Classico. Yet the Province of Verona is also home to excellent white wines, many of which are produced under the Bianco Veronese IGT designation.

The initials IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica, or Typical Geographical Indication) identify wines produced within a defined geographical area – in this case, the Province of Verona – while giving winemakers greater freedom than DOC regulations allow when selecting grape varieties, blends and winemaking techniques. This flexibility enables each winery to express its own style rather than strictly following a highly prescriptive production code.

A White Veronese IGT wine can be made from a range of grape varieties, including Garganega (the principal grape of Soave), Trebbiano, Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, or blends of several varieties. As a result, the style varies considerably from one producer to another, which is precisely the strength of the designation: allowing every winery’s individual character to shine through.

If you’re looking for a white wine from Verona to pair with seafood, starters or simply to enjoy as an aperitif, it’s worth considering both the grape variety and the winemaking approach. Wines fermented in stainless steel tend to be fresher and more vibrant, while those matured in oak generally offer greater body and complexity. White Veronese IGT wines also tend to represent excellent value compared with some of the region’s better-known white wine appellations.

Venturini’s White Veronese IGT

Il bianco veronese della cantina Venturini

Venturini produces its White Veronese IGT exclusively from Garganega grapes grown in the hills of Valpolicella Classica, at an altitude of around 250 metres on limestone-rich soils.

On the nose, it reveals aromas of white peach, citrus fruit and white pepper, complemented by delicate herbal notes. The palate is fresh, savoury and well-balanced, finishing with crisp citrus freshness. Its lively acidity makes it an excellent partner for richer dishes such as baccalà alla vicentina, soft cheeses and sushi.

Garganega is the same grape variety used to produce Soave. In Valpolicella, however, the combination of higher altitude and more mineral soils creates a wine with brighter acidity, greater freshness and a leaner profile than wines produced on the surrounding plains.

Venturini’s white wines

Alongside its White Veronese IGT, Venturini produces two further white wines.

E…lisa Brut Sparkling Wine is made using the Charmat method from white grape varieties grown in the family’s vineyards. Fresh and elegant, it is ideal as an aperitif or paired with light dishes, and is the sparkling wine served at the beginning of our winery tastings.

Il Castelliere is a white dessert wine made from carefully dried grapes using the traditional appassimento method. It offers an entirely different style, with a deep golden colour highlighted by amber reflections and aromas of vanilla, dried apricot, orange peel and almond. Rich and sweet on the palate yet balanced by refreshing savouriness, it finishes with notes of preserved peach and toasted almond. It is the perfect wine to enjoy at the end of a meal or as a contemplative wine on its own.

All Venturini white wines are available to purchase directly from our wine shop at Via Semonte 20, San Pietro in Cariano (Verona) or online, with direct shipping from the winery. For further information, please contact us on +39 346 1683094 or email info@viniventurini.com.
